Wes Anderson directs this comedy set in 1920s Europe starring Ralph Fiennes as a hotel concierge who finds himself mixed up in the search for a valuable Renaissance painting. Gustave H. (Fiennes) is a leading concierge at the Grand Budapest Hotel.

An eccentric figure known for his dalliances with older women, Gustave has a one night stand with Madame D. (Tilda Swinton) and finds himself bequeathed a valuable painting, 'Boy With Apple', when she passes away - much to the fury of her son Dmitri (Adrien Brody). With Dmitri intent on framing Gustave for his mother's murder, the concierge and his lobby boy Zero Moustafa (Tony Revolori) hatch a plan to hide the painting and evade the authorities.

Fred Ballinger (Caine) is a retired composer and conductor and his friend Mick Boyle (Keitel) is a working film director. The septuagenarian friends are on a vacation at a luxury resort at the foot of the Alps, where they ponder their children's confused lives, Mick's eager young writers and the other guests at the hotel which include aspiring actor Jimmy Tree (Paul Dano), diva Jane Fonda (playing herself) and Fred's daughter and assistant Leda (Rachel Weisz).

Whilst Mick works to finish the screenplay for what he anticipates will be his final significant film, Fred expresses no interest in picking up his musical career again, but a request from a well-known monarch makes him reconsider. The star-studded cast also includes current Miss Universe Madalina Ghenea.

Determined to create a super-race of robots, Benson manufactures a prototype, Hector, who gradually develops a mind of his own - taking on some of the more unpleasant aspects of his creator's personality in the process. The arrival at the station of the psychotic Captain James proves to be a catalyst for Hector to go on the rampage: but will his developing passion for Alex help or hinder the crew?
